Remember and Obey: Merciful Justice Shown in Observing the Heart
In this message from Deuteronomy 19:1–10, we explore the Old Testament cities of refuge and the powerful truths they reveal about the character of God. These cities were established as places of protection for those who had taken a life unintentionally, offering refuge from immediate wrath while awaiting judgment.
Through this passage we see three important lessons: recognizing God’s ownership over what He gives, understanding the importance of intent in judgment, and seeing how a growing walk with God produces greater mercy toward others.
Ultimately, the cities of refuge point us to the mercy of God. Though our sin brought death to Christ, God has provided a refuge from the wrath we deserve through the saving work of Jesus.
Join us as we consider how God’s provision of mercy in the Old Testament still challenges believers today to walk with Him and reflect His compassion.
